Walking Holidays in Clare

As one of the leading hotels in Ennis, the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis is the ideal base when taking a walking holiday in Clare. The value of good food and a comfortable bed at the end of your walk in invaluable. Often a suitable hotel is just as important as the scenic beauty on the walks.

The countryside throughout Clare is quite unique. Whether you want to stroll, walk or trek there are many options from which to choose.

Christopher Somerville, renowned Walking Correspondent with the Daily Telegraph, deems Mullaghmore in the Burren his “favourite hill in the world”. Speaking about walking as a pastime, “Country walking is the fastest growing recreational activity in Europe.  Not yomping along the side of a main road in wobbly shorts with an iPod plugged in and grim expression plastered on, hoping to shift a couple of kilos between lunch and tea, but the kind of wandering, exploring, independent walking that puts you in touch with the countryside and opens you up to nature”

Beyond the grounds of the Cliffs of Moher you can now explore a new 20km coastal walking trail in Clare which will bring you along one of the most outstanding landscapes of Ireland. From Liscannor and Hags Head in the south, along by the majestic Cliffs of Moher and to Doolin in the North, with views over Aill Na Searrach, the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. The trail follows the line of the cliffs and passes through the grounds of the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre
