Vandeleur Walled Garden located just 40 minutes from the Temple Gate Hotel, is a sheltered walled garden, formerly part of the Vandeleur Family Demesne and covering 2.158 acres, is set among 420 acres of native woodland.

Come walk, explore, and relax in the enchanting Vandeleur Walled Garden & Visitor Centre, one of County Clare’s most beautiful hidden gems. Located just a short, fifteen-minute walk from the town of Kilrush in County Clare, this walled garden’s combination of characterful quirkiness and historical interest is sure to charm.

Thriving behind old stone walls amongst 170 hectares of native woodland, the Vandeleur Walled Garden once belonged to the infamous Vandeleur family in the 19th century. The garden specialises in a variety of flora that thrives in this unique microclimate. It also displays a large hedge maze, a triangular labyrinth, a giant chess set, a quirky sculpture collection, and a beautifully renovated Victorian-style glasshouse.

Visit the contemporary interpretative experience in the refurbished stable block, which includes an audio-visual display about the area’s history and a fascinating glimpse into Kilrush’s turbulent past. Discover local art and photography, books, jewellery, and more in the onsite giftshop, Gifts of Vandeleur. There are also a wide variety of both outdoor and indoor plants for sale in the Garden Centre at VWG and Plant Boutique.

Children can enjoy playing in the kids area and follow the butterfly trail. A collection of old farm machinery enhances the courtyard area. Facilities also include the Woodland Bistro serving breakfast, lunch and home-made treats. There is a gift shop and conference room hire is also available. ‘The Vandeleur Picture Exhibition’ and the ‘Exhibition Kilrush in Landlord Times’ are on display in the visitor centre. Several events are being held throughout the year concluding with a visit from Santa Claus.
